If you own a silencer, sooner or later you'll need to swap a mount, torque a direct thread adapter, or service your baffles. That means holding the suppressor securely without scratching the finish or physically damaging the silencer— and that's exactly what the VOX Blox is designed to do.

The VOX Blox is a purpose-built soft-jaw vise block machined from high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Clamp it in any bench vise and it provides a firm, non-marring grip on your silencer body — no marring, no Cerakote damage, no slipping. Available in 12 sizes from 1.00 in. to 2.00 in., there's a Vox Blox for virtually every suppressor on the market.

How to find the right size

The most common question we get: "Which size do I need?" Here's the process:

  1. Find your silencer's outer diameter. Visit the silencer manufacturer's website and look up the published specifications for your model. Look for the outer diameter (OD) listed in inches. Manufacturer specs are almost always more accurate than trying to measure a finished suppressor yourself.
  2. Check for an exact match. Compare that diameter to the available Vox Blox sizes. If it's a match, you're done — order that.
  3. If the diameter falls between sizes, use one of two approaches depending on how close you are:
    • Within ~0.010 in. larger than the block: The Vox Blox clamp ears can be pried open slightly to grip silencers up to about 0.010 in. larger than the nominal block size. For example, a silencer that measures 1.75 in. OD can be secured with a 1.74 in. Vox Blox.
    • Larger gap between sizes: Select the next size up and shim the silencer body to fill the gap. For a thin shim, a strip cut from a brown paper bag or a wrap of masking tape works well. For a thicker shim, a strip of rubber or leather gives you more material to work with. Wrap and test until you get a firm, slip-free clamp.

Dealing with carbon-locked mounts

Even with a solid vise setup, stuck mounts can be stubborn. Carbon buildup on threads — especially on rifle suppressors that see a lot of rounds — can seize a mount so tightly that normal wrench torque isn't enough to break it free. The silencer body ends up rotating in the block before the mount gives.

The fix is simple: rather than applying slow, steady pressure on the wrench, give it a sharp tap with a hammer in the loosening direction. The sudden impulse works the same way an impact wrench does — it delivers a sharp torque spike that breaks the stuck thread free without requiring sustained force. One solid tap is usually all it takes.
