9/13/17 – A beautiful New England day was all the encouragement we needed to get out of the shop and head to the range to do some testing! For these tests we used a Savage Arms 93R17 with a 21″ barrel and installed the NYX rimfire suppressor. Our test ammo was CCI A17 Varmint Tip with a 17 gr. bullet and a listed velocity of 2650 FPS. The NYX silencer direct mounts to this rifle via the 12-28 RH threads on the barrel. Sound level reduction was significant and resulted in a much more comfortable shooting experience where we were comfortable without additional hearing protection. The 17 HMR is supersonic so there was the unavoidable supersonic crack of the bullet in flight but the sound from muzzle blast was contained and attenuated. We did not see any significant point-of-impact shift. At only 3.6 oz. the NYX suppressor does not add any significant weight to the overall setup while delivering substantial gains in sound reduction.
